Surgical Robotic Instruments

At Ximedica, I led the redesign of Titan Medical’s laparoscopic robotic instrument to improve manufacturability, assembly robustness, and cleanability while maintaining clinical and functional performance.

Key Contributions:

  • Redesigned the full instrument assembly for plastic and metal injection molding and machining, including custom and OTS material selection and assembly process and fixture design.

  • Developed and executed worst-case surgical soiling and cleaning protocols following AAMI TIR guidance; redesigned instrument housings to reduce blood ingress and enable effective cleaning and reprocessing.

  • Coordinated internal engineers and external labs to fabricate fixtures and run verification testing under simulated surgical conditions.
