Skills: Rapid Prototyping, Design for Manufacturing
Tools: Rhinoceros, 123DMake, Lasercutter
The Yingzao Fashi is an ancient Chinese construction technique in which all-wood components are designed and assembled according to a unified rule set. Based on research into original Chinese text and academic papers, I created a 3D model of a basic bracket element using Rhinoceros. In 123DMake, I exploded the 3D model into a cut file and cut and assembled it out of cardboard. Next, I modeled a section of a building including multiple brackets and prototyped a scaled model using lasercut wooden sheets and dowels.
